Cancer Research Giving Day

Frequently asked questions

What is Cancer Research Giving Day?

add remove

Cancer Research Giving Day takes place on 6 February 2024. It’s a special day when you have the power to double your donation to help fund Cancer Council NSW’s life-saving cancer research. Every dollar you give on Tuesday 6th February will be doubled, up to the matched giving total. You can still give after the matched giving amount has been reached, but your donation will no longer be doubled.

How can I donate?

Donating is easy! On 6 February, simply visit the Cancer Research Giving Day page and follow the steps for donation.

If you sign up now, we can remind you on the day.

How is my donation doubled?

add remove

Every dollar you donate will be matched by a generous group of donors who are excited to take part in Cancer Research Giving Day. Their pledge will be activated once a donor (such as yourself!) gives an amount on the day, effectively doubling the amount you have donated. You can still give after the matched giving amount has been reached, but your donation will no longer be doubled.

Why are the donations matched only up to $100,000?

add remove

This is the amount that the generous group of matching donations have committed to matching.

Can I donate before 6 February?

add remove

We certainly welcome and appreciated all donations at any time. However, for your donation to be doubled by our matching supporters it will need to be made on Cancer Research Giving Day.

Who are the donation matchers?

add remove

Our matching donors are a special group of donors who were invited to contribute to our matched giving fund. We are really grateful to each and every one of them!

How much of my donation is tax-deductible?

add remove

All donations over $2 are tax deductible. You are only able to claim the amount you personally donate, and not the matched total amount. We like the way you think though!

Where does my money go? Can I choose exactly where my donations go or who they help?

Thanks to your support, this year we’ve been able to award more than $18.2 million in funding to 58 world-class cancer research projects. These eminent and emerging cancer researchers are investigating new treatments and solutions to common treatment challenges. The projects span a range of cancers, including common cancers like breast and prostate, and rarer cancers such as childhood cancer.
